Truck accidents commonly cause TBIs

Unfortunately, our daily driving is dangerous. There is just no way around that. However, while we may focus on car accidents, those crashes are often minor fender benders. However, truck accidents rarely are so minor.

This is because commercial trucks dwarf cars in size, length and weight. Indeed, the comparison is not car accidents vs. truck accidents, but truck accidents vs. pedestrian accidents because of the disparity of the two parties involved in the accident. This is why traumatic brain injuries are so common in Fayetteville, North Carolina, truck accidents.

Traumatic brain injuries

TBIs are surprisingly easy to get because they can result from any violent jolt. And, while mild TBIs may only temporarily impact your brain, more-severe TBIs can bruise your brain, or be the result of tears, bleeding or other physical damage to your brain. However, regardless of the severity, all TBIs can have long-term effects, including death.

Delayed symptoms

Unfortunately, unlike other injuries, where the impacts are immediately seen and felt, TBIs are known for their stealth. If you have a bruised arm, you can see it, but a bruised brain, not so much. In addition, TBI symptoms do not commonly appear immediately. Instead, TBI symptoms may not appear for days or even weeks.

Immediate symptoms

The most dramatic immediate symptom is a loss of consciousness. However, if it was brief, you may not notice it. Other immediate symptoms that are commonly ignored are headache, nausea, fatigue, dizziness and problems finding your words. Often, truck accident victims ignore these symptoms as shock. It is important not to ignore these symptoms because they can be the hallmarks of a TBI.

Sensory issues

Sensory issues could appear immediately or after days or weeks. This includes a ringing in your ears, bad tastes in your mouth, strange and mysterious smells and blurred vision. You may also notice you suddenly have light or sound sensitivity.

Cognitive issues

North Carolinians could also face cognitive issues. These include both behavioral and mental symptoms, like memory and concentration problems. They also include sporadic and erratic mood changes and swings, along with feelings of depression or anxiety. Your entire personality could also change.

After the truck accident

When you are in a truck accident caused by a negligent driver, do not play the hero. Go to the hospital and get checked out. Follow up with your doctor and fight back.
