Fans of Lil Peep in North Carolina were likely saddened to learn of the star’s overdose death in 2017. The young man, whose name was Gustav ?…hr, was a victim of the opioid epidemic who overdosed on a lethal combination of Xanax and fentanyl at the age of 21. His mother has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against his management company, and some legal experts believe that the lawsuit could change the landscape of the music industry.
Liza Womack, Lil Peep’s mother, filed a lawsuit against First Access Entertainment on Oct. 7 in California. In her lawsuit, Womack argues that Lil Peep was still essentially a kid who was led astray by his management company. She has alleged five separate causes of action against the management company.
The company denies knowing that anyone on the tour bus was using drugs. However, some text messages reveal that three members of the management company appear to have offered Lil Peep drugs such as ketamine and Xanax. Filing the lawsuit in California means that Womack could recover damages if a jury determines that the management company held any degree of fault in Lil Peep’s overdose death and could change the way that the industry views drugs.
