North Carolina football fans may be interested to learn that the family of a man who died after a fall at the stadium where the Denver Broncos play their home games filed a lawsuit against the stadium on Oct. 24. The man reportedly fell about 60 feet from a railing in a stairwell following a Broncos game on Oct. 24, 2016.

The man fell from the stairwell at about 9:45 p.m. As a result of the fall, he suffered blunt force injuries to his body. He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead early morning the next day. When he died, his wife had been a stay-at-home parent with five children, the youngest being 6 months old.

According to the lawsuit, the staircase where the 36-year-old man fell did not have a guardrail to keep fans safe, resulting in an unreasonable risk of injury or death. The lawsuit claimed that the defendants, which included the stadium district, Bowlen Sports and Stadium Management Company, among others, should have been aware that there was a design flaw and a safety risk regarding the staircases. The lawsuit seeks damages that were sustained as the result of the man’s death.

When fatal accidents occur, the deceased person’s family members not only experience the loss of a loved one. In many cases, they also may experience economic losses that can make it difficult for them to continue to pay their bills when the decedent was the family breadwinner. A wrongful death attorney may review the situation to see if the fatality was caused by the negligence of another party.
