A North Carolina man was reported dead after a motorcycle accident occurred on Aug. 12 at about 8 p.m. He was identified as a DJ and singer known primarily around the southeastern part of the state.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the 50-year-old man was riding his motorcycle in the southbound lanes of US 117 when a pickup truck driving in the opposite direction attempted to make a left-hand turn. The truck struck the motorcycle. The man died at the scene. The driver of the small pickup truck and a passenger were taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries but were released shortly after. It was found that the driver of the pickup truck was a 15-year-old teenager who had just received his driver’s permit.
Motorcycle accidents can be particularly deadly due to the fact that motorcyclists are relatively unprotected against the forces that occur in these types of crashes. Further, drivers of other vehicles often do not keep their eye out for motorcyclists. This means that they may not see them when making lane changes or making turns. If the motorcyclist survives the accident, there is a possibility of traumatic brain injuries that could cause a permanent disability.
