On July 12, six individuals were taken to North Carolina hospitals after a police chase ended in an accident that involved four vehicles. The chase started on Interstate 77 in the morning and ended in Huntersville at Highway 21. The police arrested one man, 48, who was among the individuals who were injured along with three people who suffered non-life threatening injuries. Two officers were also taken to the hospital.
According to the police, the chase started after they received a tip that a man wanted by the police was staying at a Days Inn. The officers report that the man fled to I-77 when they tried to arrest him. The man reported made two U-turns in the median of the highway that resulted in him hitting a patrol car. The crash happened after he crossed a centerline on the highway and subsequently hit two cars. Another car also crashed into them.
Originally, the man was wanted on charges that including obtaining property by false pretense, assault on a government official and a hit-and-run that caused property damage. After Saturday’s accident, more charges are expected against him.
