Many cities are known for their outdoor festivals, and as the weather warms, more and more people are flocking to these events. Unfortunately, dangerous behavior on the part of drivers traveling through the areas where the events are held could endanger the lives of thousands of innocent bystanders. In one incident in North Carolina, hundreds of event-goers witnessed a fatal collision that killed two people.

In late April, police claim that a 34-year-old man sped through an event area in the afternoon. Although an officer attempted to pull the vehicle over, police claim that the officer ended a pursuit due to the amount of pedestrians and other cars in the area. Unfortunately, the man allegedly ran a red light, causing him to slam into a second car.

The occupants of the second vehicle were killed as a result of the collision. It is unclear if the suspect suffered any injuries. The man now faces several charges, including two murder charges.

Based on reports, the death of the two people in the second vehicle appears to be a senseless tragedy that could have easily been prevented. Unfortunately, the families to the deceased victims are left coping with the news of their loved one’s death. In addition to their grief, the family will have to face the financial ramifications stemming from the deadly collision including funeral expenses and potentially lost wages. Past victims have found some degree of financial relief by filing a wrongful death claim in a North Carolina civil court. Some who were able to prove that another’s negligence caused the death of their loved one were awarded damages to help manage the financial burdens of an unexpected death.
