Accidents can happen at any time. Even the most careful of drivers is sometimes unable to avoid an accident caused by severe weather conditions or unexpected wildlife in the road. However, when drivers act negligently, an accident could become even more likely. One man was recently charged with murder after a high-speed chase in North Carolina resulted in a collision that killed a young woman.

Police claim that the chase began in the parking lot of a restaurant one night in early April. An officer reports that he ordered a 46-year-old man to stop but claims that the suspect drove away instead. The man, who was driving a sports utility vehicle, allegedly began driving in the wrong direction on the Interstate.

A collision occurred between the SUV and a sedan driven by a 22-year-old woman. Tragically, the woman passed away while en route to the hospital. The driver of the SUV remained hospitalized with serious injuries. He now faces charges of murder as a result of the chase and the woman’s subsequent death.

The news of the loss of a loved one is surely devastating to a family. While dealing with the emotions associated with the unexpected loss of life, the family may also have to face an uncertain financial future due to funeral expenses and loss of income. However, when someone is killed in a collision caused by another’s negligence, the surviving family members have the option of seeking justice in a North Carolina civil court. If the family can successfully argue their claims, the court could order they be paid damages associated with the loss of life.
