This is the perfect time of year for motorcyclists. Summer vacation traffic has died down as schools have started, yet the weather is still warm enough for a drive. Unfortunately, due to their size, motorcyclists are sometimes easy to overlook, making them at risk for serious injury or death from drivers who are not completely vigilant. Unfortunately, the lives of a teenage driver and the family of a motorcyclist have been completely changed after a North Carolina accident resulted in death.

The accident occurred in mid- August. A 43-year-old motorcyclist was traveling on a North Carolina road when he encountered a 16-year-old driver. According to police reports, the young driver did not yield to the motorcyclist and hit him.

Unfortunately, the man died as a result of his injuries. In early September, officials announced criminal charges against the teenager. She was charged with death by a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.

While no one wants to see any more lives affected, the family of the deceased man is likely facing an uncertain financial future as a result of the man’s death. At the very least, they will have to pay for a funeral. Additionally, they may be facing unexpected medical bills as well as the loss of the man’s income. In order to receive help with some of these expenses, the man’s surviving family has the option of filing a case in a North Carolina civil court. A verdict in their favor could allow them to focus on their emotional recovery, instead of worrying about bills.
