Some people are committed to being safe, defensive drivers. They follow the speed limit and all other traffic rules and regulations as outlined by the state. Unfortunately, there are times when those drivers who follow every safety regulation are unable avoid the risky behaviors of others. A North Carolina man could face a wrongful death lawsuit after he was charged as a result of an accident that took the life of another driver.
In early May, during the early hours of morning, a man was attempting to make a left turn. According to police reports, a second vehicle, driven by a 23-year-old male, struck the rear of the first car as it was attempting to make the turn. The driver in the first car was transported to the hospital, but died on the way.
Police say that the driver of the second vehicle initially left the scene, but was found a short distance away. In addition to charges related to the death of the man and hit and run, he faces additional charges related to driving under the influence and with a revoked license. According to police, his license was previously revoked after an earlier citation alleging driving under the influence.
The criminal charges and any criminal sentence that follows may help the family of the deceased man find emotional closure after the death of their loved one. However, the emotional aspect of an unexpected death isn’t the only hardship a family must face. They must also deal with loss of income, possible hospital bills, as well as funeral expenses.
