Not all car accidents can be prevented. Sometimes drivers simply do not see icy patches on the road. In some instances, sudden flat tires might cause drivers to lose control of their vehicles. But in many other situations, drivers can avoid causing serious or fatal car accidents on our Fayetteville roads.
Last week, the life of a 34-year-old Fayetteville man was taken after another motorist failed to pay attention to a road sign. Now the victim’s family must live with the fact that the death of their loved one could have been prevented had the negligent motorist simply stopped at an intersection.
The Fayetteville Observer reported that the fatal accident occurred last week on July 12. The victim was driving his Jeep Liberty on Tom Starling Road when a Nissan Sentra suddenly struck his SUV on the driver’s side of the vehicle. The impact forced the man’s vehicle off of the road. The Jeep struck a culvert pipe and rolled several times before coming to a stop. Although the man had been wearing his seat belt, he died from injuries sustained in the violent wreck.
The driver of the Nissan survived the crash. The Highway Patrol reported that the driver of the Nissan had failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Tom Starling Road and Corporate Drive. The crash would have never happened had the driver noticed the stop sign and waited for the victim, who had the right of way, to drive through the intersection.
No amount of money will ever be able to make up for the Fayetteville family’s loss. However, by pursuing a wrongful death claim this man’s family may at the very least be able to obtain compensation for funeral expenses and other financial consequences as a result of losing their loved one in such a tragic and preventable crash.
