As we discussed earlier this week on our Fayetteville personal injury law blog, distracted driving is becoming a huge problem, accounting for thousands of traffic fatalities each year in the U.S. But car accidents caused by other types of negligence, such as failing to abide by traffic laws, continue to claim the lives of countless others.
This week, a North Carolina woman was killed after her car was hit by another vehicle. An officer who had responded to the scene in Brunswick County reported that the woman’s vehicle was hit head-on after another driver was attempting to pass a vehicle.
According to reports, the accident occurred Monday morning. A teen driver was on his way to school when police reported that the driver attempted to pass a vehicle in a no passing zone. As the teen driver passed the car in the no passing zone and attempted to get back in the correct lane, he lost control of his vehicle and smashed into an oncoming car.
The teen was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. Reports have not indicated the extent of his injuries.
The driver of the vehicle that was struck by the teen died at the scene. The driver’s passenger was seriously injured and taken to NHRMC.
Any Fayetteville accident that takes the life of individual is certainly a tragic event. But when loved ones are killed in accidents that could have been prevented, family members and friends are oftentimes left devastated. Although nothing can be done to change the fact that a loved one is gone, some families may take legal action in order to prevent similar accidents from occurring that could cause others to suffer the wrongful death of a loved one.
