Motor vehicle accidents are a daily occurrence on our Fayetteville roads and often result in minor damages. This week, friends and family members are mourning the loss of a North Carolina college student who was killed in a crash caused by a drunk driver. A pregnant woman and another individual were also injured in the crash.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident occurred Sunday evening when the driver of a Volkswagen Passat attempted to make a lane change on Highway 321 in Catawba County. When making the lane change, the Passat struck a Jeep Cherokee.
The force of the impact caused both vehicles to roll over and off of the highway. The passenger in the Passat died at the scene of the crash after she was ejected from the vehicle. She was only 21 years old and was a student at Gaston College. A pregnant woman and another individual in the Jeep were injured in the crash and currently remain hospitalized.
According to reports, the 27-year-old driver of the Passat was drunk at the time of the fatal crash.
