Radio Spot: Think About Water Safety for Your Family

The American Red Cross recommends that:

You and your children swim only in areas that are marked for swimming and have on-duty lifeguards.

You and your children use the buddy system! No one is allowed to go swimming alone. This includes when they are at public pools and beaches that have lifeguards on duty.

You teach your kids to swim. Enroll them in age-appropriate swimming lessons until they are proficient swimmers.

You enforce strict rules about when small children can anywhere near water. They always need an adult watching. Make it a rule that your children need to ask before they go near a pool, lake or other body of water.

Follow these safety tips and make sure swimming this summer is as safe as it is fun.
