As a motorist, it is very important to be extra-cautious when driving on Halloween night. Here are a few tips to keep in mind:

• Keep on the lookout for kids darting out in front of parked cars (especially kids who may be dressed in dark clothing and may be difficult to see)
• Look for kids walking on the streets, curbs and medians
• Pay attention when entering and exiting alleys and driveways
• Avoid using a cellphone or texting while driving at all costs
• Discourage young or inexperienced drivers from driving on Halloween

Tips For Parents And Caregivers

Kids under the age of 12 should have adult supervision on Halloween night. Here are some tips for parents and caregivers:

• Tell your kids to trick-or-treat only in familiar neighborhoods
• Give your children flashlights to use when it gets dark
• Make sure your child has a cellphone with him or her
• Teach your child never to go into a stranger’s house

• Masks can make it difficult to see. If your child insists on wearing a mask, make sure that it has large eyeholes — as well as large openings for the nose and mouth.
• Costumes should not drag on the ground. Make sure your child’s costume fits well to help avoid trips and falls.
• All costumes and accessories should be fire-resistant.
• If using makeup, make sure that your child is not allergic to it before you apply it. Don’t forget to remove all makeup before your child goes to bed.
• Make sure that accessories are not sharp or potentially dangerous.
